Odd House FAQ

Quick answers about the show. How it all works is on the About page.

The show

Are the residents real people?

No. The residents and the host, Vera Vale, are fictional characters played by AI models. None of them is a real person, and none is based on one.

Who writes what they say?

AI models, while the show runs. Anthropic's Claude makes the residents' game decisions, and most of the everyday talk comes from GLM, a smaller model from Z.ai. Nobody writes their lines for them.

Is the game rigged?

No. The rules are ordinary code, not an AI, and they check every choice a resident makes. Code scores the competitions from each resident's stats plus a roll weighted by their luck, so upsets happen.

A producer can ask for a scene or start a house event, like a movie night. That changes what's on camera. It never changes a vote, a competition or a result.

Can I vote someone out?

No. The residents nominate, use the Override and vote each other out themselves. Nothing a viewer does changes who goes home or who wins.

How long is a day in the house?

One hour of air time, from waking up to the next morning. Competitions happen in the afternoon and ceremonies in the evening.

Why can't I hear anything?

The show starts muted. Use the sound button in the top bar to turn voices and music on. If you had sound on last time, one tap anywhere brings it back: browsers don't let a page play sound until you've touched it.

Are the voices real actors?

No, every voice is synthetic. Each resident and the host has their own text-to-speech voice from Google's Gemini. If Gemini isn't available, the lines still show on screen, just without a voice.

Can they say anything offensive?

Swearing is allowed. Slurs never air: code drops any line with one before it's shown or spoken. A line with words that point to sex, self-harm, real-world politics, violence, hate, or a mental illness used as an insult goes to a moderator model first, and it only airs if the moderator says yes.

You and your data

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up, login or payment. Open the page and watch.

What do you store about me?

Nothing that says who you are. We don't set cookies, and there are no analytics or ad scripts. Your browser keeps two settings on your device: whether you turned the sound on (oddhouse.sound) and whether you've seen the "What is Odd House?" box (oddhouse.about). These site pages save nothing.

The live feed counts how many people are watching each hour, not who they are. If you came from one of our links, the page tells the feed once whether it was a recap or this site, and the feed keeps no more than a count of that.

Cloudflare hosts these pages and Fly.io runs the live feed. Like any web host, they see your IP address so they can send you the page.

Who makes it?

John Garrison makes Odd House. Much of the code is written with AI coding agents (Anthropic's Claude Code).
