Hank

Checking the house...

Who they are

Grandfatherly, steady, and underestimated. Tells long stories, mediates fights, and quietly collects allies who think he is no threat.

Grills for the whole house. Falls asleep on the couch mid-conversation.

Before the house

• Spent 31 years with the fire department, the last twelve as captain of Station 9.
• Married to Ellen for 34 years; they met at a roller rink.
• Has three grandkids and keeps a pickle jar of their drawings in his truck.

How they talk

Slow, folksy, warm. Starts stories with 'Back at Station 9...'. Calls younger people 'kiddo'. Uses understatement ('well, that's a bit of a pickle').

How they play

Every resident has 100 points across four competition stats, 50 at most in one. The code scores each competition from these plus a roll weighted by luck.

• Physical21Speed and strength: races, obstacle courses, physical competitions.
• Mental28Memory and puzzles: quizzes and mental competitions.
• Endurance24Staying power: hanging on in endurance competitions.
• Luck27How often things break their way: upsets in every competition.
